Teign Valley Community Hall is situated in Dartmoor’s beautiful Teign Valley on the east side of the village of Christow.
It is suitable for weddings and large functions, indoor sports and activities, fairs, markets, conferences and meetings.
About the hall
Teign Valley Community Hall was built in 1998 for the people of Ashton, Bridford, Christow, Doddiscombsleigh and Trusham and it is owned and run by that community. It is a charity, number 1072211, which owns the hall in trust for the community. It is run by a group of unpaid volunteers, the hall management committee, who are also trustees of the TVCH charity.
The Hall is entirely self-financing. All running costs and routine repairs are met from hire income. For major works, we save up a reserve, raise funds from the community and apply for grants from the National Lottery Fund and elsewhere. Much of the maintenance work is done for free by community volunteers.
While we do pay for weekly cleaning, we do not employ any staff. That means we can keep hire costs to a minimum but we do rely on hall users and community volunteers to keep the building clean, tidy, safe and secure.
Activities
The Community Hall accommodates a variety of regular activities. See the Clubs, Societies & Activities page for more details. Get in touch if you want to book space to run your activity at the hall.
Rooms
The Community Hall has a very large multi-function hall, large meeting room, kitchen, stage area and changing and toilet facilities. It is eminently suitable for a range of applications and functions involving up to 250 people.
“We all just wanted to say a massive thank you for hiring out all the hall to us today. It was the perfect place to have a kids party and so many people said what a great venue it was with such good facilities.“
“We had a wonderful day away at TCVH yesterday and the venue worked so well for our day! It was great to see the improvements you’ve made to the building, the acoustic panels really made a big difference for us (along with the dishwasher!)“
- Function / sports hall 264m²
- Small function / meeting room (The Bowden Room) 60m²

Details of the hall’s equipment and facilities are on this hall information document.
Note that if you want to use special equipment such as the electric piano, PA system or stage lighting we need at least two weeks’ notice so we can arrange for one of our volunteers to set this up.
Arrangements for hiring equipment to use off-site are set out here.
HOW IT WORKS (Important! Please read!)
Our hall is an entirely volunteer-run charity and you will use it on a ‘self-service’ basis. This means:
- You book the rooms/times and equipment you want INCLUDING adequate set up and clear up time. Check room availability on the Valley Events Calendar and then contact us by email tvch@btinternet.com, or call 0845 388 3607.
- You pay, in advance, a contribution (‘hire charge’) to cover running costs (energy bills, maintenance etc); there is no payment for staff time (we have no staff) but there is extra for using the stage lights. There is also a refundable deposit payable.
- You tidy, clean, remove rubbish and lock up after use (see the Departure Checklist in the User Guide). Cleaning means surfaces, floors, toilets all checked/wiped/swept/mopped so the next users find them as clean as you did. Make sure you have a clear-up team organised and time booked to do this. Talk to us about booking a professional cleaner if the floors and loos will need a deeper clean following your initial clear-up. Professional cleaning is mandatory for large and ‘messy’ events like parties.
Download the full terms and conditions. It’s vital that you read these if you want to avoid losing your deposit – they are not just ‘small print’ but contain important information about your legal responsibilities and what you are expected to do.

When you make a booking with us, we will need to make a record of your name and contact details. You can read our Privacy Notice here.
